The Mary Onettes – Don’t forget (to forget about me)

Highlighted by ringing guitars and reverbed vocals, The Mary Onettes formed in Jönköping, Sweden, in 2000.

The band — Philip Ekström (vocals, guitar), Henrik Ekström (bass), Petter Agurén (guitar), and Simon Fransson (drums) — experienced false starts in the music industry, as it first lost a record deal and then released an EP through Sony in spring 2005 before parting ways with the label.

The group was about to self-release all future recordings until a demo wound up with respectable Swedish indie Labrador, which released an EP in 2006 and a self-titled full-length in 2007. After a difficult recording process that included a truly modern glitch (first someone stole the hard drive that held all the music the band had recorded, then the backup hard drive failed), the band’s second LP, Islands, appeared in late 2009.

Don’t Forget (to forget about me)  is their 3rd single from the album Hit the Waves.

Jagwar Ma – Man I Need

Australia’s duo Jagwar Ma (Jono Ma and Gabriel Winterfield) produce some quality electronic vibes that swim through the rough terrain of yesteryear, but warps them for modern senses. The project was born from great nights out in Berlin, of grooving to 40s/50s/60s vinyl in Club Bassy and then on to Club Panorama for some 2000+ deep, deep techno and house.

Man I Need is the first single from the band’s debut album Howlin’, out June 10.

Atlas Genius – Centred On You

Atlas Genius are an indie rock band from Adelaide, South Australia and the brainchild of the Jeffery brothers — vocalist/guitarist Keith, bassist Steven, and drummer Michael — and their English friend, keyboardist Darren Sell.

Starting in 2009, for two years Atlas Genius built their own studio and worked as a cover band to pay the bills. After completing the studio, they began recording in earnest, with Trojans becoming the first song they recorded. After the song was distributed online in May 2011, the blog Neon Gold featured it, resulting in offers from record labels and over 45,000 downloads in the U.S. alone before they even signed a deal.

By the time Atlas Genius signed with Warner Bros. Records, the band was a trio consisting of Keith and Michael Jeffery and Sell.

Centred On You is taken from their debut EP, Through the Glass.

Beady Eye – Second Bite of The Apple

British alt-rock outfit Beady Eye formed in 2009, several months after the rivalry between Oasis siblings Liam and Noel Gallagher reached a boiling point at a summer festival, resulting in Noel’s departure and the band’s dissolution.

That fall, Liam and three of his former Oasis bandmates — Gem Archer, Andy Bell, and Chris Sharrock — booked studio time with producer Steve Lillywhite to begin work on a new album, with plans to release the first single under their new moniker in November 2010.

Different Gear, Still Speeding followed in early 2011, marking Beady Eye’s debut and earning warm reviews on both sides of the Atlantic. The album was released through the band’s own, self-titled label in Europe and Dangerbird Records in the US.

Second Bite of The Apple is taken from their upcoming second album BE.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. – Dark Water

With an ear for Brian Wilson-esque harmony, the irreverently named Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. swirl indie pop, folk, and electronic elements into one breezy package.

Based in Detroit, the duo of Joshua Epstein and Daniel Zott came together in 2009. Working out of a basement studio, the pair worked to create a sound that is danceable without sacrificing anything in the songwriting department, merging intricate and airy melodies with solid programmed beats and synth atmospherics. The band garnered some praise for their first release (2010′s Horsepower EP) and their cover of the Beach Boys’ God Only Knows.

Dark Water is taken from their Patterns EP.
