VCMG – Spock

After 30 years working on their respective ongoing music projects, Vince Clarke (Erasure / Yazoo / Depeche Mode) and Martin L. Gore (Depeche Mode) come together for the first time since 1981 as VCMG to release a brand new album preceded by a series of EPs.

Apparently Vince contacted Martin about wanting to work on a new techno album. The writing and recording of the album was done in a typically unique way with the pair working alone in their respective studios, communicating only via email, exchanging files until the album was ready.  It was in May 2011 that the pair met for the first time to discuss the project when they both performed at Short Circuit presents Mute festival in London.

The first EP, Spock, is available exclusively as of today at Beatport and for other digital retailers on December 13th. A full album is expected in early 2012.

Peaking Lights – Hey Sparrow

Wisconsin dub-pop duo Peaking Lights makes decidedly psychedelic music but with a rich tapestry of subtle, almost romantic details.

Five years ago, Indra Dunis and Aaron Coyes, both life-long musicians, met in San Francisco. They started dating, jamming together, and playing in the psychedelic drone group Rahdunes. A few years later, Coyes and Dunis married and moved to Madison, where they formed the equally psychedelic, lo-fi pop duo, Peaking Lights, and opened The Good Style Shop, where they sell old records, vintage clothing, and curios.

The group released their second full-length, 936,  earlier this year which is less noise-inspired and improvisational than Imaginary Falcons, their first.

The Ice Choir – Two Rings

Kurt Feldman the drummer for Pains of Being Pure at Heart has a new synthpop side project called The Ice Choir.

The band consists out of Feldman, Patrick South, Raphael Radna and Avery Brooks and leans heavily on the crumbling pillars of 1980’s technopop production aesthetic. Their music is both distinctly modern in composition and cripplingly esoteric and has been compared to the likes of New Order and Pet Shop Boys.

First single Two Rings was released on November 15.

Alpine – Hands

Alpine are a six-piece indie-rock band from Melbourne, who’s succes began only just last year.

National radio station Triple J played their demos on air and awarded them the ‘JJJ Unearthed Feature Artist Of The Week’ ribbon before they even had time to prepare their first live show. The band signed to Ivy League Records in August 2010, and released a single, Heartlove a month later. Their first record, an EP titled Zurich, was released in November 2010. Their only stumbling block has been a name change (Alpine were formerly known as Swiss) following confusion when the Adelaide band of the same name emerged.

Admirers compare Alpine to the likes of The XX and Lykke Li, something that singer Lou James admits is definitely flattering, “However one day we’d like to make our own stamp on the music scene…hopefully in the not so distant future”.

Alpine just released the first single, Hands, from their upcoming debut album. The album is set for release in early 2012.

Porcelain Raft – Put Me To Sleep

As an Italian in London, Mauro Remiddi, aka Porcelain Raft, started off scoring short films before turning his attention to songs of heartbreak made of keyboards and subtle electronics with a psychedelic flair. Remiddi is more lost boy than rock man but his bleary, blissed-out songs will have fans of dreamy pop clinging to him

He just released another self-directed video for his new song Put Me To Sleep, taken from debut album Strange Weekend, scheduled for release on January 23rd.

Once a dear friend of mine said ‘imagine if instead of water it would rain milk’. That sentence got stuck in my head. It’s about texture, the way milk would spread through the tiny paths of the pavement, touching the trees first, than our heads, than the ground. With that in mind I filmed and edited Put Me To Sleep video in a day. I hope you enjoy it.
