Stay tuned!

Once in a while I go on a holiday, and since I’m the only one maintaining this blog it also means that Discoverband will be offline until Tuesday May 1st.

That said, I’m still looking for some help to keep this blog going. So if you want to add your (similar?) share of new music and participate in Discoverband, then just send me an email and I’ll get back to you as soon as I return from my holiday.

Hope to see you back on the 1st!

CITIZENS! – Reptile

Composed by Martyn Richmond, Thom Rhoades, Mike Evans, Lawrence Diamond and Tom Burke, Citizens!  is a London-based five-piece with a mission: to reclaim pop music, because “Pop is not a dirty word. It’s a holy one.”

After having played together in different bands in the run up to forming Citizens! it was a disappointing house party where the five-piece turned the corner and started swapping ideas that led them to forging their unique brand of pop. The band cites their influences as somewhere between Michael Jackson, Kanye West, Martin Rev and Queen.

Reptile is the second single taken from the forthcoming debut album Here We Are, to be released on May 28th. The album was produced by Alex Kapranoslead singer of Franz Ferdinand.

Geographer – Kites

Geographer are an American Indie Rock band based in San Francisco. The band formed in 2008 and consists of Michael Den, Nathan Blaz and Brian Ostreicher.

Deni relocated to San Francisco from New Jersey to escape strife within his family, and after finding a synthesizer on the street, he began to channel his experiences into the songs. Blaz and Ostreicher, who originally met while attending the Berklee College of Music before moving to SF, were introduced to Deni who was playing open mic nights at a local venue.

In 2008 the band released their first full length Innocent Ghosts independently and began playing around the Bay Area. The release garnered local and national attention as Spin Magazine voted the band ‘One of the three undiscovered bands you need to hear now. In 2010 they released a 6-song EP Animal Shapes.

Kites is taken from their 2nd full length Myth, out now.

The band describes their sound as “folk with layers of noise”, while music critics have described the band as “perennially unhappy” and “a band that inject some real emotion and dynamic excitement into a comparatively standard template.”

Dead City is taken from their third studio album No One Can Ever Know. The album was released on 6th February and marks a stylistic shift that replaced their wall of sound with analog synths in a new wave style.

The Shoes (aka Guillaume and Benjamin) are an electro duo from Reims, France who make fluffy post 4am dance music.
