The Mary Onettes – Don’t forget (to forget about me)

Highlighted by ringing guitars and reverbed vocals, The Mary Onettes formed in Jönköping, Sweden, in 2000.

The band — Philip Ekström (vocals, guitar), Henrik Ekström (bass), Petter Agurén (guitar), and Simon Fransson (drums) — experienced false starts in the music industry, as it first lost a record deal and then released an EP through Sony in spring 2005 before parting ways with the label.

The group was about to self-release all future recordings until a demo wound up with respectable Swedish indie Labrador, which released an EP in 2006 and a self-titled full-length in 2007. After a difficult recording process that included a truly modern glitch (first someone stole the hard drive that held all the music the band had recorded, then the backup hard drive failed), the band’s second LP, Islands, appeared in late 2009.

Don’t Forget (to forget about me)  is their 3rd single from the album Hit the Waves.

Stay Bless – Always

Inspired equally by the classic songwriting of Fleetwood Mac, George Michael, Bruce Hornsby and Spiritualized, and the modern production techniques of Actress and Darq E Freaker; London-based Stay Bless is modern symphonic pop that utilises emotional honesty as its key instrument.

Always is their first single and the track is taken from the forthcoming EP Faded, which was recorded over the course of half a year, between the band’s flat and borrowed nocturnal studio time.

The Bamboos – I Got Burned (ft.Tim Rogers)

Inspired by the philosophy espoused by Gabriel Roth of the Dap-Kings, which they discovered when it was summarized in an article he wrote for Big Daddy magazine, Shitty Is Pretty: Anatomy of a Heavy Funk 45, the Bamboos play old-fashioned funk and soul with a strong emphasis on repeated grooves, simplicity and old-fashioned low-tech recording techniques.

Bamboos founding member and guitarist Lance Ferguson, who schizophrenically also releases electronic side projects under his DJ name Lanu, began the group as a four-piece in 2000 to play a string of concerts in Melbourne club The Night Cat.

Joining him for this initial version of the band were Ben Grayson on Hammond organ, Stuart Speed on bass and Scott Lambie on drums, playing straightforward New Orleans funk in a style heavily influenced by the Meters. After this string of concerts, the Bamboos expanded to add a horn section consisting of Ross Irwin on trumpet, Phil Noy on baritone saxophone, and Anton Delecca on tenor saxophone and flute. New drummer Danny Farrugia and new bass player Yuri Pavlinov completed the shaken-up lineup.

I Got Burned (ft.Tim Rogers) is lifted from their album Medicine Man.

The Ruby Suns – In Real Life

The Ruby Suns are an indie/pop group from New Zealand.

The band formed in 2004 and combine psychedelic indie pop with world music influences, drawing inspiration from the travels of the group’s only permanent member, Ryan McPhun. Although born and raised in California, McPhun’s thirst for adventure eventually drew him halfway across the globe, where he ventured into Africa and Thailand before settling in New Zealand.

Auckland’s music scene was rich, and the multi-instrumentalist spent time in various pop groups (the Tokey Tones, the Reduction Agents and the Brunettes) while fronting his own act, Ryan McPhun & the Ruby Suns. After releasing a self-titled debut under that moniker, the band shortened its name to The Ruby Suns.

In Real Life is taken from the album, Christopher, out now.

The Last Royals – Only The Brave

The Last Royals are an American Indie/Pop band from Brooklyn, NY. The band was created from life’s daily urban existence.

The duo of writer/singer/producer Eric James and drummer Mason Ingram, formed in early 2010 after meeting and working together on a charity record with producer Mike Beck. James had at that point written and demoed a collection of songs on his own, but was still seeking a broader personality and gravitas for the project. Upon meeting Ingram a connection seemed to click and, together with Beck, they began forging a grander collective intersection of live energy and sound.

Only The Brave is taken from their full length debut album Twistification.
